How to use the Clock Reading Practice
- Choose a level: O’clock, Half past, Quarter, 5 minutes or Any minute.
- Read the clock and tap the matching time from the choices.
- Five correct answers in a row earns a star. Your chosen level is remembered next time.
- Tick 24-hour answers for 24-hour format, for example 15:30 instead of 3:30.
Ways to use it in class
- A starter or plenary on the board: read the time aloud together, then reveal the answer.
- Independent practice on a tablet, with pupils choosing the level that suits them.
- Differentiation: some pupils stay on half past while others try any minute.
- Linking to the 24-hour clock for older pupils or timetable work.
Good to know
- The levels build gradually, in line with how time is usually taught in primary school: o’clock, half past, quarter past and to, five-minute intervals and then any minute.
- The tool only remembers your chosen level, on this device. There are no scores uploaded and no accounts.
- A real geared clock model in the room still helps. Use this alongside hands-on work, not instead of it.
Frequently asked questions
What levels are there?
Five: o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to, five-minute intervals, and any minute.
How do I earn a star?
Answer five questions in a row correctly. A wrong answer resets the streak.
Can pupils practise 24-hour time?
Yes. Tick “24-hour answers” and the answer choices appear in 24-hour format.
Does it save pupils’ progress?
Only the level you last chose, in your own browser. No names, scores or accounts are stored or sent.
